Senator Bernie Sanders: There is a war being waged by some of the most powerful and wealthiest people against the Middle Class in this country

Many of the nation’s billionaires are on the warpath, they want more, more, more… their greed has no end… and apparently there is very little concern for our country or for the people of this country who get in the way of the accumulation of more and more wealth and more and more power.

Mr. President, in the year 2007 the top 1% of all income earners in the United States made 23.5% of all income, more the the entire bottom 50%. That’s apparently not enough. The amount of income for the top 1% nearly tripled since the 1970s.

In the mid-1970s the top 1% earned about 8% of all income, in the 1980s that number jumped to 14%, in the late 1990s that number jumped to 19%, and today, as the Middle Class collapses, the top 1% earns 23.5%, more than all of the bottom 50%…

We talk about a lot of things in this Senate, but somehow we forget to talk about who is winning in this economy, and who is losing…

If you can believe this, between 1980 and 2005, 80% of all new income created in this country went to the top 1%

…and that is why people are asking “What’s going on in my life, how come I’m working longer hours for lower wages? How come I”m worrying about whether my kids will have as good a standard of living as I’ve had?”

Today, the Wall Street executives… the crooks on Wall Street, whose actions, illegal actions, reckless actions, that resulted in the severe recession that we are in right now… that resulted in millions of Americans losing their jobs, their homes, their savings, guess what? After we bailed them out, the CEOs today are now earning more money than they did before the bailout…

The United States now has, by far, the most unequal distribution in income and wealth of any major country on earth…

No one can say that no one in the national leadership was telling them the truth. It will be even more interesting to listen to this speech in ten years or so when the authoritarian takeover of the US is complete.

“No one can say that no one in the national leadership was telling them the truth”

Hard to see why not, it’s never stopped “them” before. But the point is taken. Every now and then a voice of authenticity rings out in the cacophony of our political circus, although it rarely seems to be heard by anyone who can actually do something. In some perverse way, we appear collectively determined to play this hand out to the very bitter end. It’s a wonder.

Ah there’s the rub. Propaganda does not speak to the conscious mind, fact and reality, oriented mind. Propaganda is just a fancy word, after all, for sophisticated and coordinated lying. To the professional liar facts, such as Sanders serves us with, are an obstacle, not a goal. It is all about emotions. When Bernase invented scientific propaganda via mass media he created something more dangerous than nuclear weapons. So far the weapons have not been used but propaganda has doomed the Earth since there is no known defense against scientific manipulation of the minds of the world’s population. The human species seems about to succumb to predation by its own kind. The only fact that really matters is that we are headed for extinction. Of course that fact just stuns the emotional mind and immobilizes resistance to predation. There is no way out of this carnival fun house. The last image we will have of ourselves before we wink out of existence will be the one in the distorted mirror of propaganda.

As usual I wish to be wrong about this. Please, someone come up with a plausible approach to resisting scientific propaganda.
