From WILLIAM EDELEN
The Contrary Minister
The current version of the Farm Bill as approved by the House, is both cruel and immoral with illiterate members quoting the bible, and quoting totally out of context. A New York Times heading of an article on this subject was Welfare for the Wealthy.
What fools the politicians make of themselves with biblical ignorance while trying to use that bible for justification. Among them is Congressman Stephen Fincher, a Republican of Tennessee, who quotes the bible while cutting food stamps for the poor.
Politcians who quote the bible… wow, what fun… what comedy… what a farce…
Hey boy, God said: “you shall not marry a woman divorced from her husband: (Lev. 21;7). Well, there went Reagan, Dole, Gingrich, Buchanan and all those other Republican big shots who have broken God’s law and married divorced women, and still today in 2013.
Next, look at Leviticus 20:10: “if a man commits adultery, both the adulterer and adulteress shall be put to death.” There goes everyone in Washington, almost, and the Pentagon and Sacramento, all going to hell. My gawd, what a show…
You remember Nancy Reagan. She loved astrologers. Lev. 19:31 tells her what God thinks about that: “Do not turn to mediums, or seek them out, to be defiled by them.” Oh Nancy, how could you?
Here is a Judge Roy Bean law from God for you smart aleck kids in Lev: 20:9: if they sass you or give you any lip, kill em… “just kill them.” …forget all that weak stuff like cutting their allowance.
There are thousands of other quotes from “God” we might use that could bury us… or we can find any quote we want to justify our own evil such as taking food away from children. Henri Frederic Amiel put it this way… “We are always making God our accomplice so that we can legalize our own inequities.”
I know of few issues more dangerous to this nation than this wedding of religion and politics. The Queen of England is the “defender of the faith.” The President of the United States, with the Congress, is the defender of the Constitution, the defender of ALL atheists, ALL faiths, Buddhist… Taoist… Jewish… Hindu… Christian… agnostic and Druid… and what have you.
John O’Connor, when Roman Catholic Bishop of New York, put it bluntly: “politicians who use religion as a tool are beneath contempt.”
We have been assaulted with religious sham from many in D.C. and the ultimate in religious hypocrisy on so many important issues to our nation… but now, one of the cruelest is the Farm Bill.
