From WILLIAM EDELEN
The Contrary Minister
The Media has fully covered the Red Slippers of the retiring Pope… Red Silk for indoors… Red Leather for outdoors… with the name of the designer and all related facts.
My mind went into a re-wind on the Red Blood that has soaked the earth by that same “Christian” organization. When Alfred North Whitehead was the Chair of Philosophy at Harvard University, he made this observation. “Christian Theology has been the greatest disaster in the history of the human race.” Was he correct? A brief review:
391 A.D. Christians burn down one of the world’s greatest libraries in Alexandria that housed over 700,000 scrolls.
1099: Christian crusaders take Jerusalem and massacre Jews and Muslims. In the streets were piles of heads, hands and feet. Millions were killed as a result of the Crusades.
1208: Pope Innocent orders a Crusade against the French Cathars. Over 100,000 were killed by Armaud’s men at Beziers.
1231: Pope Gregory IX establishes the Inquisition. Inquisitors were given license to explore every means of horror and torture and cruelty. Victims were rubbed with lard or grease and slowly roasted alive. Ovens built to kill people, made famous by Nazi Germany, were first used in the Christian Inquisition of Eastern Europe. The gruesome tortures used on hundreds of thousands of non-Christians were so repugnant and horrible that I cannot even describe them to you. The Inquisition spread as far as Goa, India.
1377: The Pope’s army descended on the Italian town Cessna. For three days and nights beginning on February 3, the slaughter continued. The squares were filled with blood. Women were raped, ransom was placed on children and priceless works of art destroyed. Over 3,000 were butchered.
1497: The Church began an enormous burning in Florence. The works of Latin and Italian poets, illuminated manuscripts, women’s ornaments, musical instruments and paintings were all burned.
1500′s: The witch hunts are going full speed ahead. Members of the clergy proudly report how many they have killed. The Lutheran prelate Benedict Carpzov bragged that he had killed over 20,000 “devil worshipers.” Historians estimate that more than Nine Million women were executed after 1484. This was as brutal as anything that happened in the Nazi’s twentieth century holocaust.
And the list of the blood soaked earth created by the Church could continue, even as it does today in different language.
GEORGE BUSH, SR: “I don’t consider atheists to be citizens of America.”
RALPH REED: “I paint my face and travel at night. You don’t know it’s over until you’re in a body bag.”
THOMAS JEFFERSON said it well. In his “notes on the State of Virginia 1787″: “Millions of innocent men, women and children since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half of the world fools and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth.”
Today, we have hope… after the centuries of red blood and red slippers. One of our last Popes John Paul II went to Athens to apologize for all of the damage of the Roman Catholic Church. He repeated the apology in Jerusalem and to the American Indians and many others in his last days.
And now, today, 2013, the new consciousness of the new Pope Francis 1… who shuns all of the presumptuous trappings of his office… and who refuses the obscene show of power and wealth of the position. Perhaps a new consciousness… and a new day with a new SOUL… rather than the old SOLES from red silk slippers covered with gold crosses.
